Codeless e-RS integration: The art of the possible

online

The NHS e-Referral Service (e-RS) is a web-based platform that allows healthcare professionals to refer patients for specialist treatment, manage referrals and provide advice and guidance. Recently, NHS England introduced an Application Programming Interface (API), which allows communication and information to be shared across systems, meaning referrals can be fully integrated.

Whilst no one disagrees that the optimal method of integrating with ERS is via an API, this solution is complex, time-consuming, and requires specialist IT programmers and development skills. This is new technology, and the skills required put it out of reach of many Trusts, leaving them reliant on manual processes.
